After ten years of working in fashion and beauty communications in some of the largest cities across Europe, founder of ActandBe, Laura Arriaga, decided to forge her own path; one that encourages being respectful to your body and the planet by being active and sustainable.
ActandBe apparel is produced entirely in Spain in small workshops using recycled and organic materials. Moving to Miguelturra, a small town in Spain, Laura opted for a slower way of living, embodying the town’s mantra where “a slow life is a simple life, and where ‘slow’ fashion is the goal”. ‘Slow fashion’ does not just describe pace, but encapsulates a more thoughtful, intentional, and holistic way of doing things. It is a sorely needed response to the fast life lived in bustling cities and to the excessive production and mindless consumption that dominate our society.
The origin of the brand’s name directly reflects its story and values. Using the word ‘active’, they changed the ‘v’ to ‘b’, for Barcelona, splitting the word to form ‘Act’ and ‘Be’. Not only does ‘Act’ represent movement, but encourages consumers to take a stand: “To act against climate change and to act in transforming the fashion industry,” Laura explains. “But we also wanted [customers] to be themselves, to feel how they want to feel and to be more sustainable.” This aligns with the brand’s three defining values: encouraging being active, being respectful and being sustainable.
