After fifteen years of working in corporate jobs from diverse backgrounds such as; Information Technology, Electronics, and the Automotive sector, Maria Cano gained invaluable skills and experience contributing to her growth on both a personal and professional level. Maria decided to start her own label, CANUSSA, to create a positive environmental impact. She shared with us the main purpose behind CANUSSA: “To design impactful fashion pieces, whilst respecting people, the planet and animals in the process of production.”
The name CANUSSA combines her surname “CANO”, a word of Latin origins, with the letters “SS”, taken from the double consonants of the Italian language as a reflection of her love for Italy, and the addition of an “A” for a touch of femininity. Needless to say, just like the name, the Japanese minimalist inspired designs are unique, practical, comfortable, and can be worn effortlessly at any time of the year.
Although Maria had no previous experience in design or the fashion industry, she had a desire to design a bag that would not only be practical and long-lasting, but radiate style and beauty. She told us that, “It took me a while to find the right fabrics for my bags, [because] for me, it should be high of quality and durable. However, after a year of searching and hard work, I was able to put together the final designs for the Urban backpack. We produce all of CANUSSA’s accessories in Spain, with high quality, sustainable, vegan fabrics and reduce waste as much as possible during the packaging phase since our labels and packages are recyclable or biodegradable.”
