  1. STAIY EDIT: Your Instagram account seems like the ultimate travelling mood board. How did it all start?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: First of all, back in 2013 I created my fashion blog. At the time I was mainly writing about fashion: reviewing designers, showcasing trends and giving outfits advice. I felt the need for a personal space where to tell my story, and I liked the idea of embarking on this adventure. Then, with the growing visibility of social media, I realised I wanted to tell something more connected to my experiences, so I decided to enter the world of travel and lifestyle. I changed the way I communicated until I got to where I am today, and I am still evolving.

  1. STAIY EDIT: What do you think makes your account so unique?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: Over the years, I have worked a lot on building a precise photographic identity, coming to conceptualise my own ‘stylistic code’. My shots tend to be very recognisable and it is easy to find some distinctive elements in them: clean geometric lines – which I learned from my design background -, solid and cold colours, memories from my travels in northern Europe, negative spaces and symmetries.

  1. STAIY EDIT: Apart from passion, what do you believe are the values and messages you would like to convey to your followers?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: I am a great believer in sharing positive messages, which are both entertaining and thought-provoking and which, in some way, have a cultural implication.

I also try to convey beauty with my photographs, drawing on all my references: art, music, cinema, design and architecture. My contents are meant to be a reflection of who I am as a person and what I like.

  1. STAIY EDIT: Can you tell us what it is about travelling that caught your heart? Do you have any favourite destinations?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: I love travelling because I believe it is one of the highest cultural expressions: travelling means challenging yourself, getting out of your comfort zone, often putting yourself at stake when facing contexts to which you are not accustomed… sometimes it is difficult, but overcoming that difficulty allows us to grow as individuals.

My favourite destinations are northern European countries, such as Iceland and Lapland, where I find peace. I have always been fascinated by how magical those scenarios are and I will never forget the first time I saw the northern lights.

  1. STAIY EDIT: How would you describe your style? Can you tell us 3 items you always bring with you in your travels?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: My style is definitely minimalist but at the same time contaminated by the many journeys I’ve made and the cultures I’ve met; each of which has left me a little piece of itself.

When I travel, my suitcase never lacks a mackintosh (strictly in pop colours), a shirt, an iconic and timeless piece, and of course a camera to capture snapshots.

  1. STAIY EDIT: Finally, what is your approach to sustainability? Do you have a favourite brand fromstaiy.com you would recommend to our readers?

FEDERICA DI NARDO: Over the last few years I have been trying to pay more and more attention to sustainability. For example, I try to extend the life of my clothes as much as possible. I wash them only when necessary and I make sure to store them carefully; I have also learned to buy less and to buy vintage. Additionally, I try to be careful, when possible, when travelling: a water bottle always at hand and respect for the places I visit.

I discovered Staiy while searching for sustainable brands on Instagram and I must say I really admire the care in the selection the platform offers. If I had to recommend one brand it would probably be Balagan Studio, I love the overall style!
