Social media may have most of the answers to our questions, and Vittoria Tomassini’s blog aims to cover those left unanswered. “When I decided to switch to my new lifestyle, I was super passionate about so many things, from fashion to beauty and nutrition,” shares the Italian lifestyle blogger. “When I first approached the vegan world, I started to question a lot of stuff, like what am I fueling my body with, which brands are actually vegan and not just vegetarian, and so on. I realized that the majority of products available on the market, even if labelled vegetarian, contained animals, such as the infamous cochineal used in the process of food coloring and textile dyeing. This stopped me from buying so many things. I started researching and realized that there was not even one Italian website on this topic, so I decided to open my own blog.”

“I want to help people who don’t know where to start or do not have time to research everything. My final aim is to provide them with a beginner’s guide by sharing my own research”

It has been two years since Vittoria has been sharing her blogger tips with readers who keep asking her for beauty advice and healthy recipes. “I want to help people who don’t know where to start or do not have time to research everything. My final aim is to provide them with a beginner’s guide by sharing my own research,” she explains. With a background in media and communications, and an endless list of hobbies including photography and traveling, she is her own source of inspiration. “I have my own vision that sometimes encounters someone else’s,” says Vittoria. “There are some people that I really admire such as my nutritionist, Silvia Goggi [IG @silviagoggi], an amazing woman that inspires me for my recipes, and Carlotta from Cucina Botanica [IG @cucinabotanica], with her creative recipes that anyone can recreate. She uses simple, everyday ingredients for healthy combinations that are good for the heart and soul.”

The Optimistic Apple is a perfect reflection of Vittoria herself. Communicative and incisive, and at the same time, simple and inspiring. “When I decided against using my real name on my blog and the Instagram, I realized I wanted something that transmitted positivity and essentiality in a catchy way,” she says. “I sat down and brainstormed all the adjectives that matched my personality – an optimist and realist. And then came ‘apple’. It is simple, yet it is my favorite fruit ever!” She goes on, saying, “I don’t want to be famous or have people focus on me as a person. I want people to understand and interpret facts, develop their own opinions with the information I share. I don’t want to brainwash them by being aggressive and negative, nor do I want to focus on what I believe is right or wrong as Vittoria. I share truthful facts.”

While explaining her values and principles, Vittoria tells us that “Sustainability came naturally along the way. It is an implication of my lifestyle because if you care about yourself and other living beings, you automatically care about the planet.” But how do we make sure this ‘conscious’ lifestyle is not merely a trend? “It is all about awareness. I do not believe this kind of lifestyle will fade. When you become conscious of the impact your own actions have, it is very difficult to go back and ignore it. If you don’t really understand the reasons for your [sustainable] actions and the impact of unsustainable choices, of course it will be a trend. But once you learn about the implications of your daily actions, like eating animal products or consuming plastic-packaged products, you will realize that there are plenty of opportunities for equally valid alternatives.”

“It is through our small, daily actions that we will heal ourselves, and in turn heal the planet”

Saving the planet does not happen overnight. “I always advise readers to take it slow and not to push themselves. Be realistic so that you can keep track of your achievements,” she suggests. “The important thing is that you have a clear direction in mind and that you understand the reasons behind your choices. Everyone needs to understand that humans and our planet can no longer take daily abuse. It is through our small, daily actions that we will heal ourselves, and in turn heal the planet.”
