With environmental degradation on the rise due to human activities and climate change threatening our mere existence, sustainability is the key to evolve for the general good. As our generation becomes more aware and finally starts taking action to face the complex challenges of the world, celebrities are leading the way, using their voices and high profiles to drive change. It is fair to say that they have the desire and the means to commit time and money towards their passionate causes. In fact, plenty of stars have pledged support to helping our world, whether that be their involvement in environmental organizations, social causes or veganism. However, one does not need to be a celebrity and have the same resources to make a difference. With a little passion and care, every little bit helps and it really does start by setting good examples to live more ethical lives! Have a look at some of the most influential celebrities who have been consistently leading the way for a more sustainable future and continue to inspire us every day!

Emma Watson

It would be impossible not to mention Emma Watson when it comes to sustainability. Alongside championing female empowerment, Emma has taken a stand on environmental concerns surrounding the fashion industry. She dedicated her career to human rights and fairtrade and is a vocal advocate for gender equality and women’s advancement. In 2020, she joined the board of directors at Gucci owner Kering and is chair of the board’s sustainability committee. Having long been committed to promoting ethical brands, her latest title comes as no surprise and couldn’t be more fitting. Overall, Emma Watson’s engagement to a more ethical and sustainable future is inspiring and we’re excited to see what comes next!

Leonardo DiCaprio

Since he was a child, DiCaprio has been interested in the environment and is today one of the biggest celebrity activists in the world. In 1998, at the age of 24, he established his foundation to support projects protecting wildlife and fragile ecosystems, and has taken on climate change not only through monetary support but also through film production. Indeed, he produced and starred in the National Geographic documentary “Before the Flood,” which aims to inspire viewers to take action to counter climate change. Moreover, the actor has donated millions to various environmental organisations and has spoken openly about the state of the planet. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Clinton Global Citizen Award for his philanthropic work.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow has made her mark on the sustainable fashion industry, collaborating with designers such as Stella McCartney and Amour Vert to create a line of eco-friendly shirts. She leads an environmentally friendly life and has spread the idea of sustainability in the beauty and fashion industries. She has also helped people become more environmentally conscious through her lifestyle blog, Goop. Besides her vegan lifestyle and clean innovation when it comes to collaborations and new products, Paltrow launched an edible vegan beauty line with Juice Beauty, including products for the face, lips and eyes, made from plant-based pigments.
